Nick + Mina - Material Culture

Ian Shiver

Nick and Mina were the first New York couple I ever shot, really the first adult New York couple I'd spent any time with. We met for the first time at a small restaurant in Williamsburg, and shared a meal while getting to know each other a lot better. It felt really great to connect with a couple - Nick and I had a ton in common with music and books, and Mina was wonderfully smart and easy to get along with. I remember leaving that meeting feeling lucky. For their wedding day, they made a zine sharing stories about themselves and each other, it was just as funny and honest as they are in life. Material Culture was a dream to shoot at, and their very talented friend playing and singing for their first dance was truly a thing to witness.

I also shared a very funny story about this wedding with Rangefinder Magazine, and talked about my experiences - check out the feature here.

Shannon + Ruth - A Midtown Village Marriage

Ian Shiver

Such a great couple and a great day. I got to take a one mile walk across Philadelphia with two beautiful brides who couldn't be more in love with eachother, and spend time with their family that flew across the world to be there to celebrate something so incredibly important. I'm lucky to be able to be a part of such things. I am lucky to meet such great people.

*It has come to my attention that after January 20th (and even now), the US could become much less of a safe space for the LGBTQ community, among many others. In support, I am offering free photography of city hall marriages of any LGBTQ couples who feel the need to get legally married before January 20th. I am willing to do this anywhere for travel/lodging. No one should have to make any decision out of fear. If you know anyone who might benefit from this, share this please.*
