Julia+Rob - North Philly In A Different Light

Ian Shiver

When you think about North Philadelphia, you don't tend to think of dark green trees, rocky beaches, and deep grey clouds that rival those of the Pacific Northwest. Well, most of the time you'd be right, but not on the day of Rob and Julia's wedding. I often talk to my clients about how a good photograph can be taken anywhere - about how there is a difference between things that look great in real life (such as monuments and landmarks) and things that lend themselves to being a good backdrop to a photograph. What I love more than anything is to take places out of context, and make them part of a beautiful portrait or an important detail. So you'll never catch me taking photographs in front of City Hall or The Art Museum (C'mon, thats been done a million times) but instead unexpected places that we can work together to transform into something unique.

Kelly+Matt - A Criminal Engagement

Ian Shiver

When I got to Kelly and Matt's beautiful South Philly row home they were listening to Drake and making their famous secret-recipe salsa, so immediately I loved them. Their pup Oliver was a little afraid of my camera, but he was pretty cool about it and by the end  - and a lot of petting - we were eventually friends too.

But the best part of the day was at Longwood Gardens. When we got there the parking lot was full, and us all wanting to avoid tons of people, we decided to shoot on the grounds outside of it. Until we got to a fence and saw lots of cool places to shoot on the other side.... With no hesitation, Kelly and Matt were hopping the fence with me and breaking in to Longwood. This is exactly why I love my job so much. Enjoy the photos!
